On March 31, Virus Syndicate—aka The Grime Outsiders—will top off a great month of music releases by unleashing their new LP, The Swarm. Out through their Midication Recordings label, most of the 17-track offering has exactly what you’d expect from the Manchester-based quartet: whip-smart rhyme schemes, taut flows, and big, dirty, stinking bass. However, on last cut The Sky, which we’re premiering at MTV IGGY today, they surprisingly switch up the format from in-ya-face, to laid-back and introspective.
Featuring Mr Hudson-like vocals on the hook, and deep, trippy bass work from London’s Son Of Kick, The Sky is essentially about "aiming and achieving what is deemed unachievable or unrealistic when raised in a society that lacks in hope and promise," as frontman Nika D explains. It includes a frais verse from French rapper GREMS, too. Undoubtedly the album’s standout, listen to Virus Syndicate in deep thought on The Sky below.
