So, over the weekend, I finally got around to going through my unread emails (all 2,417 of them). During said mission, I came across a note stuck in the junk box from Lukas Freeman, a photography-loving grime MC-turned-singer and producer from London, who politely asked if I’d check out his four-track debut EP, RoughLove. And what a gem it turned out to be!
On the opening cut, Loving You Wrong, Freeman’s melodic mumblings are laid comfortably on a bed of eerie trip-hop which helps bring out his moodiness. The rest of the EP is just as moody, with more wounded-in-love lyrics vulnerably sung over a selection of self-produced experimental beats fit for any leftfield crooner. I now look at my email junk box in a totally different light. Stream RoughLove in full:
