The Independent: Ear To The Ground - Ed Sheeran

Suffolk-born Ed Sheeran is an act who has come from very humble beginnings, starting out at the young age of 14, to becoming one of the most talked about unsigned artists around at the moment. It was earlier this year when the 19-year-old folk musician pricked the ears of the music industry when he was featured on SB.TV (a popular YouTube channel) and performed an acoustic rendition of his self-written track, ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’. Nearly 500,000 views on, Ed Sheeran has gone on to win over fans in the thousands, and has had some of the most hard-to-please critics hailing his name. Critics aren’t the only ones who are appreciating Ed’s talent, some of the biggest names within the urban music world have queued up to work with him, including Labrinth, Wiley, Example and Devlin, to name but a few.

Ed’s forthcoming ‘Collabs EP’ sees him team up with a group of acts that you’d never imagine a folk artist work with, grime MCs. Ghetts, P Money, Sway, Wretch 32, Dot Rotten, Random Impulse and Mikill Pane are some of the names that will feature on his 7-track EP when it's released Janurary 9. With a plethora of record labels falling at his feet, this rising star is in a place where can enjoy his independent success a little while longer.
